My big cousin Mike. Many years passed before I knew his true name of Charlie Brown. On one occasion, while I was in Elementary School, Mike came over to our house in Memphis, during his heave from the United States Army. I gave him a picture of a cowboy known as Roy Rogers, pencils and art paper and asked him if he could draw it. He said “let me see”. He sketched for a few minutes and gave me a completed sketch of a cowboy drawing his two six shooters. I took it to school on Monday morning and told the classmates and my teacher that I sketched it. I was the class hero for an entire week.
My mother, two sisters and I would visit Milwaukee at Aunt Armentral’s and Uncle Edward’s and Carolyn’s home every summer during out youth. On one occasion, Mike made a surprise visit there, while on leave from the Army. Carolyn was learning to play the piano and Uncle Edward purchased a placed a piano in the basement for her.
Mike would sit at that piano and play the entire song called the “Boogie Wookie” and had never taken a piano lesson in his life. Mike was a natural in all of his endeavors. He will be truly missed. With love and admiration! Vernell (AKA Bubba).
I will truly miss my Uncle Mike. I still tell people that I have an uncle named Charlie Brown and how I loved to go with my grandmother to visit 2 weeks every summer growing up. One day when he picked me up from my aunts house I asked him why he was named after a cartoon? He answered “Well Champ I wasn’t because I am the oldest so the cartoon was named after me” with a big smile!! He always made sure I had everything I wanted while I was there hanging out with my cousins Christy, Kelly, Judy, Carey and Aunt Joyce . I think they just enjoyed hearing my Southern accent, lol. I will always remember him as a small man with a big voice and heart. I’m sorry I can’t be there now with my family but know that I love you all and my heart is with you. Rest In peace Uncle Mike with your Mom and the rest of our family until we meet again….
Your Niece Stacie
I will miss my Uncle Charles. My fondest memories of my childhood in Milwaukee involved my cousins and Uncle Charles & Aunt Joyce. My heart goes out to all the family & friends who’s lives he touched. His legacy will live on within all that knew him.
And by the way Uncle Charles, thanks for that toy UPS truck that you gave me when I was 6. That quickly cemented you as my favorite uncle 🙂
Rest in Power big brother I wish we could have spent more time together. Your little brother William.
So sorrow to hear of the loss of your husband. The nice things written about him will forever remind you of the former days of his love and sharing.
Mrs. Brown, Judy, Christie, and Family,
We send condolences and much sympathy to you for the loss of your loved one — husband and father.
Our thoughts and continued prayers are with you for strength, good memories, and resolve in the days to come.
Sincerely,
Charlie Brown will always be remembered as a “Champ” although that’s the name he gave to so many of us.
He had a way of making you feel like a part of the family if you were ever blessed enough to spend time with his family.
One thing that I’ll never forget is when He made such a huge impression on me by sharing a “cut” of his winnings after a good run at the track. I now am sure to share a “cut” with those around when I have a lucky streak because of him.
Just having the example of a man with such pride in his family, his appearance and all that he maintained gave me amazing goals to strive for.
God bless the soul of this wonderful man that dropped knowledge on all that had the good sense to pay attention.
Much love Charlie Brown!
